Nowadays, water-based acrylic paints are the best option to paint our models. Thanks to their ease of use, cleaning, and mixing, water-based acrylics have become the paint of choice for modelers all over the world. Being non-toxic and odorless (unlike purely lacquers and enamels) they have been favored by modelers who are forced to share their space with children, pets, and other family members. They are perfect to be used with the airbrush in enclosed spaces because they produce almost no vapors, dust, or smell whatever. Purely lacquers tend to go out of favor among most modelers due to heavy restrictions in air shipping owing to their toxicity and flammability. Water-based acrylics and acrylic “laquers” (each manufacturer uses his own term) are the paints of the present and the future, and will likely be the only paints available in model stores soon.

If you already use AMMO acrylics, this book is the basic guide to get the most out of your paints; if you previously painted with lacquer colors, this comprehensive work will allow you to discover all the advantages and possibilities of this safe, non-toxic product, which will provide you with countless moments of enjoyment practicing your favorite hobby.

If you are an experienced modeller you probably already know most or even all the techniques described in this book, so very little will be new to you. But if you are a beginner or an “average” modeller, you will learn a lot of new things and will be able to clarify a lot more. As expected, most tips are centered and based on using exclusively Mig AMMO products but in most cases you can apply the theory in any other relevant brand or range of paint. Printing quality is excellent, photography is expertly arranged and very explanatory in showing the respective techniques. Some chapters, like 6. Decal Application have no direct connection with painting acrylics but anyway this particular chapter in only one page long and aiming to the beginner. Also some techniques, like those on pages 28-31 (application of highlights in an aircraft) would benefit by more detailed and explanatory captions. A beginner may find it difficult to correlate the text of these pages to each effect in the relevant pictures. Also most of the contents are aimed to the AFV, and not so much to the aircraft modeler, so this should be taken into consideration if you are interested in buying the book.

Nice price though, at 18.40€, so we can definitely recommend it to beginners and average modelers, eager to learn and experiment with acrylic paints. If you already use Mig AMMO paints and relevant products, then you have one more good reason to buy this book, in order to get the most out of them.
